Professionals Training At Sunshine Coast Karate

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

At Sunshine Coast Karate we get to work with some extraordinary people.  We are extremely grateful to have the opportunity to share our martial arts studies with these people and we are even more grateful that we too learn so much from them.

Here is one extremely inspirational man that we have the pleasure to enjoy in our dojo at least 3-4 times every week.  He balances home, family, work and more into his daily life and still manages to stick to his training routine at Sunshine Coast Karate.  In no time this person has progressed to a point where only one grading stands between him and his black belt.

The person we are talking about is Jim Moehead (1st Kyu Chito-Ryu).

A bit about Jim’s Business:  Jim Moehead – Building Design & Drafting – design and drafting company whose clients include owners, builders, developers and other consultants. Not only on the Sunshine Coast, but throughout Queensland and New South Wales. With a vast knowledge of the building industry and the ability to prepare quality plans, whether they are house plans for extensions and additions, new building designs or contract drafting for other consultants. We aim to achieve results which gives the client a building design which fits within their ideals and budget. Our design takes into consideration your requirements, the natural qualities of your site and surroundings. Our approach is to work with you to arrive at a floor plan that you are satisfied with prior to commencement of final drawings. We encourage clients to get involved with their project along the way and ask questions if there are any issues you may not be certain about.

To learn more about Jim’s business please visit Jim’s Website by clicking here >>

Be sure to follow us over the next 12 months or so to see how Jim continues to develop his technique and skills as he prepares for his black belt grading.

You too can get started at Sunshine Coast Karate easily with a free trial at a time that best suits you. Not only will you develop some great martial arts skills, you will be on a life changing journey where your martial arts skills will soon be utilised in all areas of your life and be taking you to heights you may never thought possible.  Get Started Today With A Free Trial > >

Not All Martial Arts Are The Same!

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

At Sunshine Coast Karate we are fortunate to be able to learn and share the study of Chito-Ryu Karate.  This short segment takes a brief look at the karate style of “Chito-Ryu” to help members of our sunshine coast community gain more of an understanding of the system which underlies our training practice at Sunshine Coast Karate.

Not all martial arts are the same! Chito-Ryu™ is a traditional form of Karate with an international headquarters in Japan. The founder Dr Chitose (1898 – 1984) was a medical doctor that studied at the prestigious Tokyo University. Dr Chitose came from a renowned martial arts family and was instructed by the most famous names in the Karate world at that time. In 1946 Dr Chitose developed the style based on his lifetime of Karate training and his knowledge of physiology.

Chito-Ryu™ retains the devastating self defence techniques of the fighting tradition and yet is particularly beneficial for ones health. Through the training of Chito-Ryu™ one can build an indomitable spirit and a strong body and mind. The benefits gained through training are advantageous for all areas of life.

Karate / Martial Arts training can be the most exhilarating life changing pursuit one undertakes. On the other hand students of less authentic schools can put their heart and soul into Karate training only to discover a few years down the track (usually after meeting an instructor of some quality) that they have spent time and money learning a hollow art void of substance.

Unfortunately the Karate / Martial Arts industry is not regulated. Whilst certain instructors may gain high coaching accreditation through TAFE courses that does not mean they know anything about Karate. We live in a fast pace society where all things have to be instant and whilst the benefits of Karate training can be visible quickly, 6 months of training (no matter how intense) will NEVER make one a black belt or an instructor. Remember any member of the public can walk into a martial arts store and buy any colour belt they like including black.

Chito-Ryu™ is an authentic form of Karate-Do with a clear lineage and roots that trace back hundreds of years. All Chito-Ryu™ instructors are highly qualified and internationally accredited.

Sunshine Coast Karate is affiliated with the International Chito-Ryu™ Karate-do Federation of Australia.

Health Benefits of Chito-Ryu™

Many attest that training regularly in Chito-Ryu™ enhances the quality of life.

Areas of benefit are;

  • Weight Control
  • Concentration & Focus
  • Confidence & Self Discipline
  • General Health & Fitness
  • Flexibility & Coordination
  • Self Defence Ability
  • Increased Muscle Strength & Bone Density

Children will gain an excellent foundation for all physical activity.

“An Activity That Exercises My Body But Also My Mind”

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Here is another success story from one of our valued Sunshine Coast Karate members.  Rob has made an impressive start to his training.  Not only does Rob take part in classes regularly he also works at his home dojo to further develop his technique.   At Sunshine Coast Karate there are fewer adults than children training yet those adults that are training are inspirational.  No matter what they just keep on going and stepping up to new challenges to ensure they reach greater heights

Anyway here are a few words from Rob on his experiences so far at Sunshine Coast Karate.

“I took up martial art because I was looking for an activity that not just exercises my body but also my mind. I want to maintain my physical fitness but running and cycling became too mono tone for me.  I thought about working out at a gym but again this would leave the mental side of things alone.

My job is stressful at times and very often I have taken work home with me. During exercising I have been thinking about work on many occasions and therefore did not get the full benefit out of the exercise. I wanted to find an activity which would require my full attention to take me away from the day to day stresses of life.

The offer of trial sessions was a great opportunity to see and feel wether martial art was the type of recreational activity I wanted to participate in. I received a friendly and inviting welcome not only from the staff but also from other participants. I felt that Sunshine Coast Karate is operating in a very positive environment. Smiling faces everywhere.

I believe that martial art has changed my personality since I am happier in life in general.  Even though my job is not monotonous at all I have become frustrated and negative and somehow disappointed with humanity through the things that I have seen in my occupation.

The focus required during training takes me away for the time of the session but the experience as a whole and the motivation for progression remains inside me for hours and days until the next time.  Even though I am a shift worker and my sleep patterns are somehow disturbed, since I have started martial arts the quality of my sleep has improved. In general I am a happier person and have a more positive outlook compared with my past.

I really enjoy the environment here at the Maroochydore dojo. The members of training team are very approachable and helpful all the time. People arrive with all sorts of facial expressions but everyone leaves with a smile on their faces. Personal goals and wishes are accommodated and all age groups are thought of. The training times really suit me as I am a shift worker. The location is close from where I live but there is easy access from all directions. The instructors really know what they are talking and teaching about, they have been doing Karate at a high level and standard for a while.

Training at Maroochydore is fun, energetic, motivating. It is a great workout and a positive environment to be in!  My physical fitness, balance and flexibility have improved. I am a happier person with a fun focus in mind that is in balance with my working life.”

Thank you to Rob for taking the time to share his personal experiences at Sunshine Coast Karate.  We are very fortunate that many of our students are open to share their experiences in order to help others who are just starting out in their martial arts studies at Sunshine Coast Karate.

If you can relate to Rob’s message and are experiencing similar circumstances please feel free to contact the team at Sunshine Coast Karate to see what we may be able to do for you and your family.
