International Chito-Ryu Karate-do

Sunshine Coast Karate has a close relationship with the International Chito-Ryu Karate-do community. Each year our dojo hosts a special guest instructors from the Sohonbu (International Headquarters). And in 2005, we hosted a young instructor, Keiichiro Oda Sensei from Kumamoto, Japan who assisted with teaching for 3 months.

Since 2001, our dojo has been represented at the Soke Cup (International Chito-Ryu Karate Championships) with numerous winners and medalists in both kata and kumite.

Our regional head instructor, Martin Phillips Sensei, spent a year training and assisting with teaching at the Sohonbu (1997-98).

And as one of the few full-time Chito-Ryu dojos in Australia, we are regularly in touch with other Chito-Ryu instructors throughout the world to learn from and share ideas.
